The arithmetic is simple and worth internalising: points are worth about a cent each, and 10,000 points redeem for roughly ten dollars off a purchase. Redemption happens in increments, and you need to hit the minimum before points do anything at all.

This matters because it lets you evaluate offers instead of reacting to them. A "20,000 bonus points" promotion is a twenty-dollar promotion. If it requires spending eighty dollars on items you would not otherwise buy, it is not a good offer — it is a twenty-five percent discount on an unplanned eighty-dollar purchase, which is a different thing entirely.

The second is splitting a shop across multiple transactions or multiple days when a threshold offer is active, which can leave you short of the trigger with nothing to show for it.
